Secrets of the double cleanse for perfect skin

The idea of a double cleanse originated in Japan. The method is to first fully remove your makeup using an cleansing oil before cleansing the face thoroughly of any impurities using an ordinary facial cleanser. The concept sounds very new but I suppose that many of us have been doing this for as long as we have worn make up- as make up remover is often used to remove makeup before cleansing the face. Especially when heavy, dark eye make up has been used.

Though it is more visual when removing eye make up, it is important to remember the whole of the face needs to cleared of makeup and product before the skin is cleansed. Even if you’re not into wearing makeup remember that products such as BB creams, tinted moisturisers and sunscreens also have to be properly removed too.

Using a cleansing facial oil helps to ‘lift’ and dissolve the layer of make up, sunscreen and excess oil on the face. As the face is then cleansed using a suitable cleanser ,such as a foaming cleanser, all the remaining impurities, such as dust and sweat, are washed away. The skin is then totally clean and well prepared for facial serums and moisturisers.

There are many established and new facial products on the market. These are a few of the more well regarded products.

You could even try using a third application of a foaming cleanser to ensure that every last trace of dirt has been removed. This sounds like covering all bases but it would be so important that you had selected a suitably mild cleanser that wouldn’t be stripping the skin of its natural oils. Stripping the skin completely could cause the skin to panic and produce an excess of additional oil to compensate…leading to a very possible breakout.

You might only use a triple cleanse following a evening of heavy make-up or a busy day in the city. You could choose to try a triple cleanse before using a face mask or other treatment to ensure maximum results.
